BATTERY MAINTENANCE 06-05-2004 My car won't start!!!Do you need a battery just because your car does not start? Maybe not..We would be happy to test yours FREE. Automotive batteries contain "cells" and each "cell" contains plates or grids. Depending on the battery quality it will have a different number of plates per cell. Generally the higher number of plates, the more cranking power. Each of the plates also contain material that when covered by battery fluid create electrial energy. As a battery ages this material tends to fall off of the plate and goes to the bottom of the battery. When this happens you end up with a less powerful battery and one that eventually will have a loss of output in that cell or all cells. This process can take several years to occur. Do not think however that the battery is bad just because the car will not start. Most companies like to sell you batteries. We however prefer to diagnose your problem before selling the battery. We want you to purchase what you need, when you need it. The other causes of the car not starting could be a slipping belt, bad alternator, bad fuse, loose connection, bad battery cable etc etc...Again come on in or call and we will be happy to help you.
